These two paintings share the same starting point - a black & white sketch I did earlier, and rediscovered in a sketchbook. I still liked the sketch, and decided to build on it. I started with Red Bouquet, on the right, and later started Blue Bouquet on the left. It has been interesting showing the two together and listening to viewers preferences - it does seem people like one or the other quite strongly. At Peace, At Last; 2016
16” x 20”; Acrylic on canvas panel I was revisiting photos and came across one of poppies in our former garden. The poppy is such a beloved motif, both for the simplicity and beauty of the flower itself and for all the symbolism that it has acquired over the last 100 years. My first renderings of the image were in watercolour with the flowers just floating on the plain page. I felt a deeper connection taking place with my initial images which evolved

This one, from 2016, was developed using photos I took on a visit to British Columbia in the summer of 2015. In Comox on Vancouver Island is Filberg Lodge, a heritage house and park. Well, hello and happy new year! You will remember the strawberry patterned utility box wrap design I did for the Mississauga Arts Council's Banners and Boxes Neighbourhood Identity Project, the reveal for which was in September. Part 2 of that project is the design for street lamp banners, to match or coordinate with the box design. A few banners were planned for each box, marking the location.
