Sometimes colour in art is used not only because it is visually pleasing, or accurate to the subject matter. It can also be used intentionally to create a mood, emphasize a character or detail, or may contain historical, cultural or religious meaning. Some meanings may seem contradictory, or a colour may bring to mind something quite different than intended, if there are cultural differences between artist and viewer. I will list possible meanings for each colour, but it is up to the viewer to think about the work, what the artist is trying to tell you, and what it makes you feel.
